Yes, Farhan Akhtar is awesome – and so is the rest of the cast in what I believe is India’s first movie on the rock genre of music. Rock On!! is a masterpiece as is its music, thanks to the brilliant music composer trio Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy. Farhan Akhtar seems to gotten better over the years – the director-cum-actor-cum-singer (!!) has previously written and directed cool movies such as Dil Chahta Hai, Lakshya, Don – The Chase Begins Again, and Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd. With Rock On!!, he dons three different hats at a time – that of an actor, singer, and producer.
Rock On!! is the story of four friends who put together the greatest band India has ever seen called Magik, But they never make it due to ego problems that crop up after they win a major album contract with a music company. Years later, fate conspires to bring them together again and set them on a journey back to where they left off… a soul-searching pilgrimage into their past.
The music of the movie is excellent. Songs include:
1. Socha Hai (sung by Farhan Akhtar)
2. Pichle Saat Dinon Mein (sung by Farhan Akhtar)
3. Rock On!! (sung by Farhan Akhtar)
4. Ye Tumhari Meri Baatein (sung by Dominique Cerejo)
5. Zehreelay (sung by Suraj Jaggan)
6. Tum Ho Toh (sung by Farhan Akhtar)
7. Sinbad The Sailor (sung by Farhan Akhtar and Raman Mahadevan)
8. Pichle Saat Dinon Mein (Live Version) (sung by Farhan Akhtar)
9. Phir Dekhiye (sung by Caralisa Monteiro)
The best song in the album is “Tum Ho Toh”, which is a true rock ballad – I think it’s quite excellent, especially Farhan’s voice, which sounds fresh. “Pichle Saat Dino Mein”, “Socha Hai”, and “Rock On!!” are cool, too. “Yeh Tumhari Meri Baatein” is kinda cute – Dominique’s voice is sexy, so is Caralisa in “Phir Dekhiye”! “Sindbad the Sailor” is one song in the movie that has deep meaning – you might want to listen to it more than once very carefully. I didn’t quite like the track “Zehreley”, because it sounds quite forced upon!
If I were to rate the movie and the music on a scale of 1 to 10 – 10 being the highest – I would happily give it an 8!!
