Watched the premiere of The Collector at Cinestar Cinemas, Mall of the Emirates. I went expecting the movie to be fantastically bloody and gory, with limbs and guts being thrown here, there and everywhere. Especially since the poster said “Warning: Not for the faint of heart, nor those with a weak stomach.” Alas, the “Warning” turned out to be a child’s game.

The movie didn’t have a plot – it was just filled with some hide and seek, a “teeny tiny bit” of gore, booby traps similar to those seen in the Saw series of movies, and a bit of concentrated tomato ketchup. Well, the movie is definitely neither “gory” nor “bloody” as one would expect it to be – at least I wasn’t impressed. I have seen way better movies that have excelled in their goriness – perfect examples include Hostel, Hostel 2, The Midnight Meat Train, Ichi the Killer, My Bloody Valentine, and many more.

I feel sad for the two girls who left the cinema hall in a hurry, within the first 15 minutes of the movie, because had they stayed till the end of the movie, they would have had a hearty laugh! I don’t know what the director was thinking. I also blame the writers of the script – Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton. I feel let down, because these writers who wrote the script for the Saw series of movies, have indeed done a half-baked job with The Collector.
